Babesia or Babesiosis

Photobucket

I have to rest up from all the excitement this weekend. Mommy ran in a 5K, The Hennepin Lake Classic, on Sunday. She used to run alot but then got lazy for about 18 years. So this was the first 5K she ran in 18 years! Woowoo! Then she found out that her Dad (my Papa) was in the hospital. He had been very sick with a high fever for over a week and they didn't know what was wrong with him. He had very low platelets and white blood cells. He finally found out yesterday that he has Babesia. It is a parasitic blood infection that he probably got from a woodtick. He doesn't remember ever having a tick, but some of them can be so small you don't see them. The symptoms are very similar to malaria. They gave him plasma to help his blood and started him on some medicine, so we are hoping he gets better very soon. It was very scary.

My new thing lately is jumping in the tub to get drinks of water.

I don't splash at all. I just drink

Hi Kodak!
We hope your grandpa is ok. We're keeping him in our prayers!
By the way, did your mommy run in San Francisco? Because our daddy was running the marathon there.
Hope you have a good day, and take care of your grandpa!
Wags and licks,
Maya and Kena

I am sorry about your Pa. We wish him a speedy and full recovery!

Yes, like Maya and Kena said, there was a special marathon in SF this past weekend. But, I think if you were in SF, you would have let me know ahead of time, right Kodak?

And of course you may use any of the puppy pics I posted!

I sure hope your papa is going to be ok! Ticks can cause all sorts of problems. You look great drinking out of the tub...we are so hot here now in TX, we drink lots and lots of water.

Kodak,
Please tell your mom that we are very sorry to hear about her dad. A good friend of ours once had a very bad infection because of a tick, and she didn't know she had ever been bitten, either. We hope he gets well very soon. In the meantime, congrats to mom on the 5K: we think that's fantastic!

My race was in Minneapolis. I wish I could have been in San Francisco -- but not to do a marathon. I'd be better handing out water than running that far! I was happy to just make the 3.1 miles that I did!

Hi Kodak,
Sorry to hear your Papa is not feeling well. I'm sending the paw power right now to help him getting well soon.
Cool photo in the tub, no color as pure white as your coat.
Cheers!
Oh, the word verification is very hard to see, a bunch of letters being glued together but I'll try my best, hehe.

Good evening kodak.
The helminth entered father's blood.
Is it infection from the animal of nature or do?
The body prays and I pray for the thing that improves early.
And, enough becomes energetic early treatment and nourishment.

wow i would NEVER go in the tub like that! Family in there, i'm not! I know what happens when a dog and a tub are together. I GET A BATH!

I know your papa is better now (i read the post before this, and am working my way back), but i still am sending good wishes your way!

We agree with Isis!!

Dog + Tub = Bath

(and that's bad news)

PS- paws crossed for your grampa to get better!
